well, since you liked that film (which is based off a bunraku puppet play, as you know and mentioned) I think you'll enjoy Shinoda's Double Suicide a great deal more than I did (perhaps my most hated "art-house" film I've yet seen... what a piece of crap )

Is that last comment supposed to be a sort of nudge intogetting me to see something by Hong?

Either way, I want to know what you think I should see by him first.

No. If it were directed to anyone (and it wasn't) it be directed to Mr. Panda. Woman on the Beach seems like a good starting point.

I think I would kill to see this Yamanaka. Only have seen Humanity and Paper Balloons and it made a believer out of me.

I can't wait for subs of his other remaining film to appear. It's got a (sexy) 16 year old Setsuko Hara in it!

yep, me too. I thought it had the same feel (not themes) as Tokyo Story but I liked it much, much better.

I should really get around to watching Humanity and Paper Ballons. I'm a bad person for not having watched it yet. :(

Really wish you wouldn't throw terms like "masterpiece" around so loosely, especially when you refer to films you gave an 8.75/10 or whatever.

Also, since you like Aoi Miyazaki, you should try and check out Eli, Eli, Lema Sabachthani? Just read about it and tell me it does not sound awesome.

lucky: that's because I'm trying to make my grading system more difficult. They're sort of arbitrary anyway.

Even with your review and wkw's advice not to go see it (over at the deux), I think I'll still watch it, if only for my completionist tendencies.

You are completely right about My Blueberry Nights, definetly his weakest effort. I have to admit i still enjoyed it a great deal, just because of the visual style it was presented in.
