sometimes...

one time the voted-on winner caused a rebellion (led by a Cuban, natch) for Monteiro who turned out to be like the raddest fucking filmmaker ever (so elegant, so funny, so heartbreaking) so every now and then we have to secretly black-op some guerillas down in the hush-hush to topple our whitebread canon-boners, yknow?

it's all quite whim-y (we had a schedule at some point but that kinda institutionalized it too much)

I listed my Mike Leigh ratings/list on the mike leigh thread. will post it here again. I'm totally going to indulge in leigh this month and finish his filmography if at all possible.

And I'm going to watch Maddin's Careful!

I am kind of glad that a Frenchie out-beat a brit and a canadian tho. HAHAHAHA.

how is it possible that you ask that question when the answer will almost invariably be "because I haven't"?

These are also my favourites.

I still need to see a bunch of his features (besides My Winnipeg and Careful I think I've only seen Brand Upon the Brain! and Archangel, maybe one more) but I think I've seen all his shorts.

great elite/counter, this could make history :omg: :praise:

I shall finally watch Naked and the only other Leigh I've seen is Happy-go-lucky, so let's first see how I like Naked (HgL was very good but not great).

As for Maddin just :omg: I was promoting him for quite a few month in a row by now, and he always did well at the noms but just never enough to make it. Good for everybody but René Clair to finally have him at the MoMs!.
I'll try to watch Careful an some of his shorts I haven't yet.
Is there any good place to watch them in better-than-youtube quality?
Do we even have listed links somewhere already? (that would be a good thing to do, I'll compile it if some of you help with links).

Anyway, elite/counter :righteous:

October 1 - so in love with Mike Leigh, then I watch this.
The Short & Curlies

funniest one yet I think. the rest of his films are kind of drama and humor combined or just drama. This one had me laughing from start to finish (wow, all 16 mins. of it!) but I just had to love it. Mike Leigh month here I come! OMG I'm so excited. *woot*

HHH *friends* Seems you have seen Leigh's best films, but I would definitely see Life is Sweet, which is among his most acclaimed.

On an unrelated note, it seems the library has some of the plays he's written (not available on DVD/VHS). So I'm happy? I'll try them out.
