TLC's Top 1000 and Beyond!

Postby Ally » Tue Nov 24, 2009 8:06 pm

It seems that there are huge write-ups on the films from They Shoot Pictures Don't They? See this for example:

Maybe TLC can write up its own 1000 top films. People can volunteer to write which films they want to write (one at a time) until finally we have something more than our lists and more relevant than a magazine would have been. And we'll have something to show for our opinions! Thoughts?

I don't have the time either. But if people contribute one film at a time as they feel like it! (I don't know about the video commentary, but I was hoping to do clips of actors starting with Emmanuelle Devos and that never happened  )

I can contribute whatever I've written already, if I even have written about any of the 1,000

Wow! It's been a year already.

Maybe the 2010 project will be to compile our reviews and just like to the Top 1000 (the new one). However, as with anything, there will be some prodding and I will ask some people to volunteer. Maybe if each person wrote a review monthly or bi-monthly, we'd have a great database within about 3 years and everyone would get to write what they're excited about!

That way everyone can participate and our list will evolve and be cool and even more revered than it is now (if that's at all possible).

if we're actually doing this, I think it's obvious these should be capsules? 300-400 words, max two paragraphs? if we're going to do it, I propose the pieces should be new and not compiled from old reviews, and priority on a film would go to those who had it highest in their list, if they choose to write about it (of course, if a film's as close as #12 and #19 on two peoples' lists, then they should work it out amongst themselves)

Jimmy James, I think we should attempt to do this. Even if we fail, we'll have tried.

Also, we could do capsules. However, what if two members have two different reviews on Mulholland Dr. for example? In my opinion, post them both! To limit our reviews to 300-400 words/2 paragraphs would perhaps hinder someone who wanted to go further. It probably wouldn't be beneficial, except maybe in Simon M.'s case. ;) Of course, we could put this all to a vote. But since writing about 1000 films would be daunting, I think that whoever has a review of it .... well, that's good enough.

I like this idea, and pretty much endorse James' suggestions--maybe we could have one "official" capsule on each film plus links to additional members' thoughts &/or longer reviews.

I like ambitious projects :plot:
