There is only one freedom of any importance — that is of the mind.
When we arely speak the truth words are insufficient.
Human beings love each other: in sex, in friendship, and when they’re in love, and they cherish other beings — humans, animals, plants, even stones. The quest for happiness and the promotion of happiness is in all of this, and the power of our imagination.
Love’s the only language everyone understands.
We all worry about going mad, don’t we? How would we know — those of us who live in our minds, anyway?
I know the names that matter.
I shall come more like a deprived animal if I can’t write — be like a starved dog.
I wrote.
John You can say anything you like if you make it sound like a joke.
Janet Oh, don’t, John. That’s cruel.
John That’s where you’re wrong. It’s not cruel. It’s nothing because it’s not understood.
Who are you with now, Iris? We’re lost!
You know more about me than anyone on earth. You are my world.
I used to be so afraid of being alone with you. Now I can’t be without you.
I like things that are worn down. Just wear wear wear until they go.
We need to believe in something divine — without the need of God — something we might call love or goodness.
