Slick, by-the-book conventional romcom, except with lesbians. It frustrates me that so much of gay/lesbian cinema reenacts all the cliches of heteronormative films. This one is more about the relationship between the one woman, who has found her sexual identity later in life, and her three adult daughters who must go through much scheming farce to come to terms with the idea. The family aspect, some of it unusually affecting, is what elevates this, as well as the surprisingly natural comedienne Leonor Watling turns out to be. Disappointingly, the romantic relationship lacks all warmth and realism; the ‘lovers’ may as well be sisters; I think the filmmakers really failed to follow through on their premise. A fun watch, anyway.

Lauren, 25, out-of-work librarian. At the moment, TLC is but a review blog and catalogue of my film-related perversions. I always plan to do more with it — and to one day step outside 30s Hollywood again. Who knows?
