The Rage in Placid Lake

2003 - Australia

Director
Tony MacNamara

Starring
Ben Lee, Miranda Richardson, Claire Danes

And here a run-of-the-mill indie dramedy… Well, for the first half I couldn’t get past its trite earnest-quirk schtick, but eventually it did win me over with its own subtle charm. All the stock characters are there (timewarp hippie parents, the hot asexual nerd girlfriend, the working drone regular joes) in this little film about my own lost generation. Ben Lee, one of my favorite young musicians, is surprisingly good in his to date only acting credit. And I like my favorite actors (here, Miranda Richardson) hammy and overripe when they take films somewhat beneath them. This is pretty hit & miss, but again a fun watch.

Lauren, 25, out-of-work librarian. At the moment, TLC is but a review blog and catalogue of my film-related perversions. I always plan to do more with it — and to one day step outside 30s Hollywood again. Who knows?
